Self-scan line thoughts ~

Are self scan lines at the stores bad?

I had a thought the other day while I was in a big box store. All of the skin and go aisles were busy and there were only two or three files with someone scanning your stuff as a cashier. In the scan and go aisles there were two or three people watching everybody like a hawk and leaping into action when there was an issue with the scan or whatever.

And I thought for a minute that this must be what it is like in prison. Or this must be what it is like in a socialist or communist country.

Just for a minute. The thought didn't linger. But it was there long enough for me to wonder if freedom-loving people are being led into a society with the promise of convenience but the end result is monitoring and eventually control.

It's one of those things where we have to always be vigilant as Americans. Freedom as much as I hate to repeat a cliché, is not free. It is bought with decisions, resistance to those who would control us, and sometimes with violence and bloodshed.

While I do not advocate for violence I do read in Thomas Jefferson's writings that the tree of liberty has to sometimes be watered with blood.

I hope that with all of this convenience we are not hanging ourselves on hooks we will not be able to escape from.
